Connect FM to the Web: JavaScript, Gmail and Scraping Web Tables

Why Connect to the Web?

The following three examples show three different ways to connect FM to the web in different ways. And there are more ways to interact, too. As a developer, you’ll need to learn techniques like these if you want to give your clients the best experience and the most powerful FileMaker database possible.

The FileMaker Web Viewer Bridge – Bridging FileMaker and JavaScript

Jeremy Brown takes integrating FileMaker and Javascript to the next level.  Two videos at the link along with two Free FileMaker Example files.  Experience level:  intermediate or above.

This framework bridges the FileMaker platform and any JS libraries you are using, forming, as most bridges do, a two-way connection. FileMaker can ‘talk’ to the JS loaded into a web viewer, and the web viewer can call back to FileMaker.

Connect FileMaker to Gmail

Jason Young shows how to connect FileMaker to Gmail in a two part series. This information is very detailed and requires some relatively serious programming chops.

This is the first in a series of articles on using the Gmail API from FileMaker. We’ll provide free example files for each post and these examples will all use the native Insert From URL script step so there won’t be any plug-ins required.

Scraping Tables – Pulling Data Tables from Web Pages into FileMaker Pro | HomeBase Software

Douglas Alder showed a friend how to save time and improve accuracy when scraping data tables from a web page using FileMaker 17. The savings in speed are incredible – from copying and pasting from a pdf to the simple click of a button. He also (natch) included a free FileMaker Example file at the link.
